Frequently Asked Questions

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing modality that channels Universal life force energy to support physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. The word “Reiki” translates to Rei (universal) and Ki (life energy). During a session, the Reiki practitioner acts as a channel for this healing energy, helping to clear energetic blocks, reduce stress, and restore natural flow in the body. Reiki’s gentle approach is one reason why this type of healing continues to be embraced by people seeking emotional balance, relaxation, and energetic support. Practitioners must receive formal training and energetic attunements to become certified Reiki healers or Reiki Masters. What are the benefits of Reiki healing?

Reiki healing offers a wide range of benefits for the body, mind, and spirit. It promotes deep relaxation, reduces stress and anxiety, and helps balance the nervous system. Reiki can support emotional healing by releasing stuck energy, easing overwhelm, and balancing your chakras. Many people also experience improved sleep, greater mental focus, and a renewed sense of connection to themselves. Because Reiki works with the body's natural energy systems, it can complement other healing modalities and support your overall well-being - physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

I’ve never had Reiki done before. What should I expect during my first session?

I recommend wearing light, comfortable clothing and having an open mind! We’ll start with a brief pre-consultation to discuss your needs and intentions. If you choose to add a tarot reading, we’ll pull cards beforehand to help guide your session. Then, you’ll lie down and relax while I work with your energy using light touch. Afterward, I’ll share any insights I received during the session. Some people feel sensations like tingling or pulsing as the energy moves, while others simply feel deeply relaxed. Every session is unique and tailored to you. While every session is different, many people report experiencing the benefits of Reiki healing even after just one session, including a sense of peace, emotional release, or renewed clarity.

What is your Reiki lineage?

I was attuned in the Usui Reiki lineage as a Reiki Master, the traditional form of Reiki passed down from its founder, Mikao Usui. This style focuses on channeling universal life force energy to support healing on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels.

While in Japan, I paid my respects to Dr. Usui at his memorial in Tokyo. The stone erected by his students after his death is about 10 feet tall. Over 2,000 people learned Reiki from him, and his teachings continue through practitioners like me.

I’ve never had a tarot reading before. What should I expect?

My tarot readings are based on each client and what answers they’re seeking. With tarot in general, it’s a great intuitive tool for reflection, clarity, and support in all types of situations. As a Reiki add-on, I use the cards to help bring awareness to what’s present in your energy and where you might feel stuck or uncertain. My intention is always to hold space with compassion and care. Readings are also family-friendly - like this sweet moment when a mother and her son came to me at an event to ask about how Kindergarten would go.

Do I need to sign a waiver before my session?

Yes. To ensure safety, informed consent, and clarity, all clients are required to acknowledge a brief liability waiver before booking. This waiver outlines that my services are complementary practices and not a substitute for medical or mental health care. You’ll be prompted to review and agree to it through my booking system. You can also read the full waiver here if you’d like to review it in advance.

Anything else you’d like to ask?

Please fill out the form on my contact page, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can! Don’t hesitate to ask about my recent trip to Japan, either. :)

Okay, twist my arm, here is a photo of me on Mt. Kurama in Japan. This place is especially dear to my heart because it’s the birthplace of Reiki.

Mt. Kurama, just outside Kyoto, is where Reiki was founded by Dr. Mikao Usui. In 1922, Dr. Usui went to this sacred mountain for a 21-day retreat of meditation, fasting, and prayer for deeper spiritual understanding. On the final day, he experienced a profound awakening that became Reiki - the practice of channeling universal life energy for healing, balance, and spiritual growth.

From that moment, Dr. Usui began sharing Reiki with others, passing down a practice that continues to be taught around the world today. Standing on Mt. Kurama myself was surreal, and one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I’m beyond honored to be a Reiki Master following in Dr. Usui’s footsteps.
